No matter where you start from and where you’re going, there is a form of transport able to get you to and around the Central Coast. With services including airports, trains, buses and taxis, there are options to suit all preferences.
There are three airports in the Central Coast: Da Nang International Airport, Phu Bai Airport (Hue) and Chu Lai International Airport (Quang Nam).
In Da Nang, there are direct international flights to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Hong Kong, Singapore, China (Shanghai, Beijing, Macau), Taiwan, South Korea (Soul, Incheon), and Japan (Osaka). Carriers include Vietnam Airlines, VietJetAir, Jetstar, and SilkAir, China Airlines, Dragonair, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, and Cathay Pacific. Domestic flights connect to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Dalat, Can Tho, Pleiku, Haiphong and Nha Trang. Flight time from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is about one hour.
In Hue, Vietnam Airlines have daily flights to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. VietJetAir also connects Hue daily with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
In Quang Nam, Jetstar fly direct from Chu Lai (near Tam Ky City) to Buon Ma Thuot, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc and Singapore. Vietnam Airlines also fly direct to Hanoi.
Numerous express trains depart daily from Hanoi to Hue City (12 hours), Lang Co (13.5 hours) and Da Nang City (15 hours).
There are also many daily trains that depart to the Central Coast from Ho Chi Minh City that stop at Da Nang City (17 hours), Lang Co (18.5 hours) and Hue City (20 hours). Train schedules and bookings can be made at vietnam-railway.com, an agency of Vietnam Railway.
To travel from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Da Nang or Hoi An requires a long overnight bus ride which can take up to 24 hours of longer. As such, it is best to break up your journey but making a side trip along the way. From Hanoi worthy stops include Quang Tri (to see the demilitarised zone), Quang Binh (home to World Heritage Phong Nha caves) and Nghe An (Ho Chi Minh’s mothertown and birthplace). From Ho Chi Minh City interesting destinations along the way include the beach destinations of Nha Trang and Mui Ne. Deluxe bus companies that service the Central Coast include Sinhcafe and Mai Linh.
