The Legend of the Top of the Chess Board

According to the record of historian Le Quy Don, “the story goes that: There were two fairies he sat playing chess on the top of Son Tra mountain, but for many days he was still inconclusive.

Then one day, the fairies flew down to the beach to bathe, while ignoring the fairy playing, a fairy was defeated by the opponent. Annoyed, the fairy kicked the chessboard into the sea, then flew back to the sky. The beach where the fairies bathed has now become the most beautiful beach in Vietnam with the Tien Sa, and the fairy chess board is still under the sea to prove a real and virtual legend about Son Tra. And according to this legend, people have placed a statue of De Thich sitting alone next to a stone shaped like a chessboard, the top of Ban Co got its name from there.

And every year, thousands of visitors come here, many people have left their signatures as well as enjoying the feeling of sitting and playing chess with De Thich in the vast space to enjoy the feeling of floating in the fairyland.

But if considering the legend of this  chess board, the fairy he sat here is not De Thich – “the king of chess”, the explanation has become clear. The fairy he flew away because he knew that his friend lost the country, and the fairy he sat here was thinking about what move to save the chess game with a smile that was not very bright before kicking the chessboard into the sea and then feeling sorry. fly away…

Way

There are two directions to  the way to the top of the Son Tra chessboard.

One is to go to Bai But Linh Ung pagoda and then cross the slope to the top of the chessboard. Going this way, you can conveniently visit Bai But Linh Ung pagoda, stop by the heart of the city to light incense to pray for peace and then continue.
Second, you can go from Yet Kieu Street and turn towards the People’s Army Barracks of Naval Region 3. This is the option most people use to save time.

Because the  road to the top of the chessboard  is quite steep, there are bends that seem to be hugging the cliff and unable to move at high speed.

The scenery here is probably the most beautiful in the early morning, the mist covers the back of the mountain, the red morning light gradually appears through the foliage to bring the most pristine beauty. And in the afternoon watching the sunset from the top of the chessboard is equally magical.
